The transition from winter to spring in Larder Lake offers a mixed bag of activities. At this time of year, some anglers continue to try their luck through the last of the ice on some lakes (including Larder Lake itself), while other spring fishermen seek out the first of the season's open waters where the ice has already melted.
A new, annual barbeque / auction, is a fundraiser for the Larder Lake Walleye Enhancement Partners (see our events calendar for details). These volunteers have played a major part in the return of the walleye (pickerel) to Larder Lake since 2000.
Skiing and snowmobiling enthusiasts can also catch the tail end of the winter snow... it tends to hang around a little longer here, than in Southern Ontario.
Not to be out done by the long snow season, the ice on Larder Lake can be transformed into a 9 hole golf range with a little help from local fundraisers; the Arctic Golf Open Tournament is usually held in early April.

Later in the season, as spring leads into summer, don't miss the infamous Victoria Day long weekend - May 17th, 18th, & 19th 2008. Also affectionately known as "May Run" or "May Two-Four" weekend, it closely follows the opening of walleye/pickerel fishing season, and marks the beginning of Raven Beach camping season. Friends and families flock to their camps and cottages to open them up for the coming summer, and to catch some of those delicious pickerel.
Later in May, an Aborginal Festival has been held at the Rec Center since 2003.
The first weekend in June is the Annual Lions Club Fish Derby / Robert & Fred Jr. Sheldon Memorial Derby. Check the Events calendar for more information and for other special spring events in Larder Lake, or contact us.
